Recently I’ve had a lot of people ask me “what is a blog?” For starters, this is a blog. You are reading one right now.
What Is A Blog?
The dictionary definition of a blog is that it is a web log of personal information that is posted via a blogging platform. This information can be discrete, text only, photo
only or a combination of different media types. The blog is also usually written in a casual form which is what makes it different from a press release blog (formal blog for companies).
How Blogs Work
A blog works when the blog owner sets up a frequent and regular blog post. People can find blogs through keyword search (using a search engine), by browsing through blogs and
by links left on other sites. In many cases, blogs can be followed by readers so that the readers will be updated each time the blog owner posts a blog. Regularly posting blogs will attract more
readers because the blog will come up in search a great deal more often.
Who Uses Blogs
Actually, a lot of people use blogs. Except for people asking what is a blog; a good 60% of the population owns their own blog. Not all of these are useful or even informative,
but people have them. People who use blogs well are companies who use them to advertise and inform, people who use them to post about things the y love (such as cooking, sewing, blogging,
writing, online colleges, etc.).
Blogging Platforms
There are a lot of different blogging platforms and most of them are free. A few blogging platforms that work especially well for beginning bloggers include Blogger, Wordpress and Tumblr. Each of these platforms is easy to use, free and
relatively simple to change and customize. If you don’t want to use any of these blog platforms, feel free to try others. There are literally hundreds of blogging platforms available.
Why Should You Blog?
Blogging is important in some cases and taboo in other cases. If you have something solid you want to blog about. A subject, a theme and a concise writing ability then it is
okay to blog. You should also have a strong control of your chosen language and you should be able to correct grammar and spelling errors.

Your blog theme might not sound important to you. However; your blog theme can
actually be responsible for about 75% of the traffic you receive. And by theme I don’t mean the color of your background and by traffic I don’t mean cars.
Your blog theme is what your blog is about. Each of your blog posts should follow this general theme in order to fit in. Your theme is designed to appeal to both you (so you
are interested and hopefully qualified in writing about it) and to your reader (so that they follow you or keep coming back for more).
What Are Your Interests?
The First thing you should ask yourself when choosing a blog theme is what are you interested in? Do you like sports? Art? Music? Dancing? Pick something that sparks your
interest or that you even do yourself. For example, if you paint for a hobby, writing a blog about painting might be just the thing for you. Do you drink lots of tea? Write a blog about tea and
learn about what you are drinking while you research your articles.
What People Read
This is important. What do people read? What would you read? If you wouldn’t be interested in reading your own blog post, don’t even think about posting it. No one else will be
interested either which means you have just wasted your time and downgraded the quality of your blog. Think of fun and interesting posts that people will be interested in. If you aren’t
sure what other people read, try looking for ‘search popular keyword engines’ and search
keywords related to your blog theme!
What Do You Know About?
Here’s another tip. Don’t write about anything that you don’t already know at least a little bit about. Even the most extensive research won’t let you know everything about
something and missing one tiny crucial detail can cause you to completely misinterpret something. Write about what you know so that the quality of your blog is ensured and you don’t get comments
saying you are stating false facts.
What Can You Keep Writing About?
Another good question is what are you interested in and know enough about to keep writing about it. Think about it, plan past the first one or two posts and decide if you can
keep, continuously, coming up with good blog posts. If not, you might want to think about using something else for your theme. Or, you can think about just broadening the theme. For
example: Cute teapots I own is a bad theme because it is very limited. However; cute teapots is actually a good theme because as long as you can keep using the internet to find cute teapots, you
can keep posting your blog.
Is It A Good Blog Theme?
Now, is it a good blog theme? Is it something you can blog about and keep blogging about. Are you interested in it, do you know about it and most importantly, will people read
about it. If so, you have chosen your blog theme. Congratulations and feel free to start a blog.

Having an iPad can mean the freedom to send messages, emails and access your photos and content on a large screen from virtually anywhere, but it can also mean that you can blog from
virtually anywhere. Whether you are an administrative assistant with a slow work day and want to get in your
blog while you work (just not on your computer) or you’re sitting at McDonalds flipping through some photos you took for a blog, blogging from your iPad is a great option. Here are a few tips to
get you started.
iOS blogging Apps
Blogging apps are perhaps the most convenient way to blog from any mobile device due to the fact that they allow you to post directly to your blog from your iPad. Plus, they allow you to
view comments, moderate the site and generally anything else you would do from a traditional computer. A few popular blogging sites that host iOS blogging apps include Wordpress, Blogger, Tumblr and Typepad. Best of all, 90% of mobile blogging apps are 100% free!
Blog Via Email
Email blogging is the process of writing an email and mailing it to an email address provided by your blog. The email address will then automatically post your email as a blog on your site.
This type of blogging is generally very easy, however; if you like to format your blog a great deal, you might have to go back over it later to make a few edits. Blogs that allow you to email
posts include Blogger, Wordpress and several others.
Blog via Text
Blogging via text is pretty simple considering that you can send texts from your iPad. However, this form of blogging features many of the same restrictions as blogging via email except
that it can sometimes cost money. However; blogging via text can be especially useful if your email is not working and you don’t feel like using an app.
Write & Save for Later
Another great method of posting blogs from your iPad is just to write it while you are pretty much anywhere in the world, save it and then later, sync with your computer and copy/paste into
your blog. This allows you to write the blog when you have the time and post it when you have the convenience of working with the full blog interface to add any links, photos or etc. that you
might desire.

Whether you are a student who has not yet started work or if you are a well accomplished business guru with years of experience under your belt, you should have a blog! Why? There are a lot
of reasons actually but it all boils down to one thing; you receive more attention and therefore more sales, especially if you are a freelancer, than you would without a blog.
Blogging Directs Traffic
While your blog won’t be standing out on corners wearing an orange vest and holding a stop sign, it will direct traffic to your website. Blogs are useful in this way because they put up
content that is related to your site (or profile). People tend to search for content, not profiles which is why your blog will come up in search and users and readers will then become interested
in you or your website. This basically translates into if you are interested in promoting yourself or your website, you need a blog.
Collect Interested Readers
Just like books in your library, internet readers can be collected. A reader is someone who follows your blog and checks back frequently to read it. Obviously the more of these you have the
better because it directs traffic towards your site and, if you are promoting your services or etc., will provide you with a list of potential clients and employers!
Discover Like Minded Individuals
Blogging helps you to attract like-minded individuals who share similar interests or who maintain similar blogs. Working with these people and sharing links to your blogs will help you to
promote your cause, business and blog which is beneficial to everyone involved. Plus, you might even get to make a few new friends along the way!
This type of networking can be used not only to find and meet new people but to promote your blog, your business and your profession through shared
interest.
Learn To Polish Your Writing Skills
You’ve heard that practice makes perfect right? If your writing skills are a little crude or rusty, try writing a blog every day for a week or two, it’s not the most glamorous form of
writing but it will polish your writing skills so that you can do pretty much anything you want!

Being a student gives you the perfect opportunity to start your blog, especially if you study at an online course or school.
Why? Because you are in the perfect place to learn, write about interesting things and of course, have frequent access to a computer. But more than that, you should start a blog because you have
things to say and you want people to read them. Here are a few easy tips on how to start and maintain your blog!
Start Free
First, there are a lot of free blogging platforms so start off with one of those, they
are free, customizable and easy to use so that you can get your blog started, running, and possibly even making money before you even start to think about paying for it.
Set Up Information First
Alright, once you post a blog, people can see it and see your blog. Try setting up your blog profile, images, information, tracking devices, color scheme and etc. before you actually post a
blog. This will mean that when people finally do stumble upon your blog post, your blog is all set up and looking pretty!
Post Regular Blogs
Now that you have your blog set up, you will want to post to it regularly. Depending on how often you like to blog this can be every day, or several times a week. Blogs that post at least
two times per week will generally receive more traffic than blogs that post once per week or less.
Keep Up Quality
If you are posting blogs regularly than you run the risk of losing quality on posts when you don’t know what to write about. Avoid this by skipping a blog if you aren’t sure what to do or
just browse around for inspiration until you find it!
Use Media
Using media such as images and video are a great way to add spice and interest to your blog. Don’t feel like typing? Just record a video blog or vlog and post that instead. It helps to
interest readers because they can see, and hear, who you are while still maintaining your blog post. Images of course add a bit of visual spice to keep text from becoming too long or
boring.
